Kazbek, the Caucasus

International Mountaineering camp in Georgia found the base-location at the high altitude meteorological station (3600m) on Mount Kazbek (5047m) situated in Kazbegi region in the Caucasus.

Tha participants came to the camp from Austria, Slovenia, Switzerland, Poland and of course, from Georgia. 92 all together, including instructor stuff, the cook, security and the doctor.

The main goal of the camp was to gather the young people from the entire world and gave them an opportunity even once during whole life climb the 5000m high mountain.

The aim is classical route 2 category of complexity.

The meeting point was Tbilisi, the Alpine Club.

On August 10 the participants left Tbilisi, the next day they reached meteorological station.

On August 12-14 the trainings and preparatory outputs were carried out.

August 13-15 were the days of rest.

On August 14 the first attempt to reach the summit Kazbek was not successful as the weather broke up.

On August 16, as it was planned, the part of the participants (17 men from a children's house) left the camp, as their program included basically only fact-finding outputs.

On August 16 the some of participants reached high altitude monastery Betlemi.

On August 17 the storm of the main summit was carried out. 56 participants took part. 52 of them reached the summit Kazbek (5047m). After main summit five participants also climbed the mount Spartak (4200m).

The Slovenian participants had to left earlier because of their flight back on August 17 and unfortunately, they could not reach the summit Kazbek.

On August 18 the participants returned back to Tbilisi.
